Under the Umbrella

In a time of social distancing and working from home. Its hard to keep in touch with your friends. Especially, when they’re super geniuses that go off to another state for their phd. My solution, DISCORD.

Well it was my friend’s solution. He suggested we do a movie night, and now we’ve turned it into a ritual.

Once a week, we’ve gotten on the computer and pulled up Netflix to watch….you guessed it from the title im sure…

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY

Let me start by saying it is one of the strangest shows I have ever seen. And in the best way possible. It only makes sense that it’s based on a comic book series. A medium notorious for some of the strangest stories around.

And Strange is an understatement. The blurb makes the show look innocent. A bunch of superhero children grow up and try to stop the apocalypse. But add together one kid with a drug problem that sees dead people, one starlet who used her power to get ahead, one dead brother, a psycho with knives, a time travelr, and an abandoned giant. That is a recipe for epic insanity.

The best part about this show is it’s extreme attention to detail. Every frame is meticulously made. From the time acurrate colors, and settings. To the character actions and marks they leave on the world around them.

The second best part is the music. Timed perfectly, it is like a character in and of itself. I want to buy the soundtrack like yesterday.

The third part I love most is the epic cast. The only one I’d have called a “mega star” is Ellen Page prior to watching. And I’ve never been a huge fan of hers. But the rest of them blew me away!

Klaus Hargreeves has to be my favorite character of all time. A character made for the comedic genius that is Robert Sheehan.

Klaus is a disaster. He’s high or drunk nintey percent of the time. But he has a pure heart. He’s honest and loving, amd no one ever listens to him. But you’d be a little broken too if you dealt with the things he’s been through.

So far we’re on episode 6 of season 2 and it’s just as good as season 1. The was one minor continuity error but thats it! Everything else so far has been perfect.

Season One : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Season Two: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Season two viewing still in progress so Im reserving my 5th star.

Have you seen the academy? Who’s your favorite character?

Show available on Netflix!
